Cisco Network Assessment Using neteXpose DNA

neteXpose DNA has been added to the list of appropriate and reliable Network Assessment Tools for Cisco’s Installed Base Lifecycle Management (IBLM) Practice. By offering a Cisco Discovery Services (CDS) interface the DNA software can also be used as client side API to return lifecycle analysis and reports after a Cisco network discovery and inventory.

Features and Benefits

  • Vendor-independent IP network device and IP end-station auto-discovery and inventory
  • Product lifecycle information and inventory reports on Cisco devices, Cisco IOS and other Cisco Operating System Software
  • Product lifecycle information and inventory reports on network devices and operating system software of selected other network device manufacturers
  • Variety of asset reports on the identified vendors and devices
  • Automated and customizable documentation in different languages
  • Pre-defined and customized network maps
  • Open Network Assessment Approach: CDS interface for Cisco Registered Partners; neteXpose Knowledge Server for other users
  • High data security and privacy mechanisms

Open Network Assessment Approach

The DNA software can be installed on any user or customer PC, laptop, or network service center server to perform the network discovery either local or remote. During the discovery phase, the network devices and end-stations are located; their asset and configuration information is stored on the DNA station; the DNA Asset Reports on the identified vendors and devices are automatically created; and the pre-defined DNA network maps are made available.

The lifecycle reports can be produced in two different ways:
Using the Cisco CDS API the Cisco-related parts of the discovery results are transferred to Cisco where the EOX information is added, and the Cisco lifecycle analysis data services reports and other services reports are produced, e.g. Cisco Hardware EOX, Cisco Software EOX, Field Notices, PSIRT info, KTN report and KTN link. This approach is aimed at Registered Cisco Partners analyzing networks for upgrade and migration opportunities, e.g. within the framework of a CDS/IBLM-related Cisco Sales or Marketing Initiative.

In addition, neteXpose provides the most recent product lifecycle data on Cisco devices and on other selected network manufacturers’ devices on the neteXpose Knowledge Server as well as on the DNA station as part of the DNA software. After the discovery, the discovery data is automatically correlated with the EoX data either at the customer’s site or at the partner’s service centre. Depending on his partner agreement, the customer can get access to asset reports, end-of-life reports, and network maps on his own DNA PC or on his intranet. Or he can receive a printed documentation from his neteXpose partner. DNA supports Microsoft Office Excel reports, Microsoft Office Word templates, and Microsoft Office Visio maps. The partner also can use his own national language templates including company design together with the DNA software.

The neteXpose Knowledge Server approach is best suited for non-Cisco Partners, and for customers who are concerned about allowing external service personnel to perform a discovery using foreign devices, or to view information about the customer network.

Two CDS API Versions available

The DNA CDS Standard interface aims at users who quickly want to transfer all discovery data on Cisco devices, and wish to receive all Cisco CDS reports and services. The application is fully self-running and easy to use, even by non-technical staff.

The DNA CDS Advanced interface targets to users wishing to transfer either only a device selection or a file without customer-sensitive data, and want to receive only certain reports. In addition the DNA CDS Advances interface offers extensive transaction and service management features for advanced users.
